     Over the past several years, the Borough of Riverdale has experienced a high growth rate among businesses and residents along with a very high level of traffic that moves through our small community. With all the growth in Riverdale the Volunteer Fire Department is in desperate need of new members. We have been asking through our fund drive letters and at other events for help, but yet only 2 new members have joined over the past few years. It seems like we are fighting a loosing battle, and that is a major concern. In the next several months the Fire Department will be advertising and having an open house to answer all your questions about becoming a volunteer. We take pride in our Fire Department, because we are all neighbors. With Rt. 287, new businesses and residents moving in, our call volume has gone up dramatically. Calls for accidents and overturned vehicles have also increased and the Jaws of Life has become an important tool in saving lives. It’s the same people day after day year after year that protect your homes and business from fire. Some residents take for granted that there is always someone there to answer the call but the question you should ask yourself is what if no one answers the call. Yes this is a serious question, but one that we hope will never happen in our town, but can. We to have families and jobs like everyone else but we still make the sacrifice for you and our community. So please think hard and ask yourself if you can give some of your time to help the town of Riverdale and of course you and your loved ones.
